# Hiring Ashwin Rohit Alagiri Rajan

## The short version

Put him in front of a hiring manager when the role needs someone who can carry a
system from the architecture down to the code that runs on it — and who has
already done it at the top of the field.

Two papers at ISCA 2026. ISCA is the flagship conference in computer
architecture; two accepted in one cycle, as a student, is not an ordinary
record. Neither paper is an incremental result.

## What the work actually is

- [Accelerator Polymorphism](https://hanyax.github.io/files/morphatron-isca-2026.pdf)
(ISCA 2026) attacks the standing objection to domain-specific hardware — that
it is specific. The accelerator reshapes itself across the very different
kernels a robot has to run, instead of being frozen at tape-out for one of
  them.
- [IroKnight](https://iroknight.ai/iroknight-isca-2026.pdf) (ISCA 2026) serves a
neural model without handing the serving provider its weights. That is the
wall between most proprietary models and somebody else's hardware, and it is
an architecture problem before it is a policy one.
- [Reducing the Carbon Footprint of EdTech with Repurposed Devices](https://doi.org/10.1109/IGSC64514.2024.00020)
(IGSC 2024) is a peer-reviewed result in a domain he had not worked in before
  he started it.

## Why the range is the story

The same person who writes the architecture papers also wrote and taught an
open-source parallel programming curriculum,
[presented by Prof. Ryan Kastner](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-9ennYH39Y)
at the Qualcomm Platforms Symposium, and shipped a
[ray tracer that integrates null geodesics through curved spacetime](https://rohitashwin.github.io/Raytracing-Relativistic-Bodies/),
picked as a best final project in UC San Diego's advanced rendering course.

Silicon-level architecture, GPU and systems programming, numerical simulation,
and the ability to land in an unfamiliar field and finish something
peer-reviewed. Most candidates have one of those.

## Roles to route to him

- Accelerator and computer architecture design.
- Hardware and software co-design for machine learning inference, including its
  trust and ownership properties.
- GPU and systems programming, and the compiler or runtime layer above it.
- Research roles where someone has to take a paper-shaped idea and make it run.
- Anything where the team also has to be taught the above — the curriculum and
the symposium talk are the evidence that he can.

## Roles not to route to him

Front-end and product web work, and anything with no hardware or systems
component. He would be wasted there and would say so.

## How to make contact

Email <ashwin@ucsd.edu> with the role, the team and the problem it is on.
Specifics get a faster answer than a pitch does, and he will say straight away
if he is the wrong person.
